Do I need an adapter from Australia to Thailand?
You need a Type B or O adapter for Thailand.
Australia: Type I, 230 V, 50 Hz → Thailand: Type A/B/C/O, 230 V, 50 Hz.
Dual voltage (100–240 V input) covers 230 V. Type I plugs do not fit Thailand's Type A/B/C/O sockets. Pack a Type B/O adapter.

Why
Plug shape. Australia uses Type I (two flat pins in a V shape and a flat earth pin). Sockets in Thailand are Type A (two flat parallel pins), Type B (two flat parallel pins and a round earth pin), Type C (two round 4 mm pins, 19 mm apart) and Type O (three round 4.8 mm pins, 19 mm apart). They are not compatible, so you need a plug adapter.
Voltage. Australia is 230 V; Thailand is 230 V. Same voltage family, so everything you own will run. Adapter or converter?
Frequency. Australia is 50 Hz; Thailand is 50 Hz. No change to worry about.
Thailand: Thailand's official standard is Type O (TIS 166-2549), a three-round-pin plug rated 16 A. In practice most sockets are hybrids that take Type A, B and C plugs as well as Type O. Schuko (Type F) plugs fit the hybrid sockets but are not earthed, and sale of appliances with E/F plugs has been banned.
Australia: Australia's nominal supply is 230 V (AS 60038) although many areas still measure close to 240 V; either way it is in the same band as Europe. Sockets are Type I only. The same Type I plug is used in New Zealand, and fits sockets in China, Argentina and Papua New Guinea.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an adapter from Australia to Thailand?
Yes. Australian plugs are Type I and sockets in Thailand are Types A, B, C or O, so you need a Type B or O adapter.
Do I need a voltage converter from Australia to Thailand?
No. Both are in the same voltage range (230 V and 230 V), so single-voltage appliances work.
Will my Australian phone charger work in Thailand?
Yes. Phone and laptop chargers are dual voltage (100–240 V). You only need a Type B or O plug adapter.
